Christine Lagarde has officially started her new job as head of the International Monetary Fund. Taking control in the wake of Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s resignation, she is the first female managing director since the organization was created in 1944. Although her selection means that a European will continue to run the IMF, Lagarde has said that her goal will be to make sure the IMF “continues to serve its entire membership.”
