Christmas Eve in Nigeria turned into chaos, as five bomb blasts went off in the city of Jos Friday night leaving 31 dead, according to Choji Gyang, a special adviser to the governor of Nigeria’s Plateau state. Two bombs went off in the Angwa Rukuba area of Jos, followed by three more blasts just minutes later in the area of Kabong. “The way they went off was in the same manner. They all went to where people were concentrated,” said Gyang. In recent weeks, the governor's office had received several letters purported to be from some Muslim organizations threatening attacks against Christians, according to Gyang. “The security officials didn't take the threat letters seriously. They were thought of as gimmicks, and at the end of the day, they became reality.” On Saturday, a suicide bomber in Pakistan killed 40.
