Christy Sheats Wanted to ‘Punish Her Husband’ by Killing Daughters

Sheriffs say she was angry over impending divorce.

Christy Byrd Sheats, 42, sought to “punish her husband” for their impending divorce by killing their daughters, Fort Bend County sheriff Troy E. Nehls revealed on Wednesday. Sheats fatally shot daughters Taylor, 22, and Madison, 17, Friday after calling a family meeting at their Houston-area home. Responding officers shot and killed Christy as fired a final shot into Taylor. Officials said that Sheats “quickly” drew a gun during what was ostensibly a meeting to discuss her divorce from husband, Jason Sheats, 45, who went uninjured in the ordeal. The late mother reportedly had a history of mental health issues, with hospitalization following suicide attempts. 911 tapes released from the incident show Madison and her father pleading with Christy not the fire the weapon.
