The CIA released a declassified memo saying that its Deputy Director Gina Haspel, who is Trump’s pick to lead the agency, did not order the destruction of tapes that showed “waterboarding and other interrogation techniques used on post-9/11 detainees,” according to The Cipher Brief. The memo was written by former CIA Acting Director Michael Morell, who investigated the actions of Haspel and Jose Rodriguez, who “headed the agency’s clandestine service” at the time. Morell concluded that Rodriguez alone decided to destroy the tapes. Special Prosecutor John Durham also found “no evidence of criminal wrongdoing” when the memo was first drafted. Haspel’s confirmation hearing was recently pushed off until May.
