The Clemson Tigers crushed the Alabama Crimson Tide on Monday night to take home their second national championship title in three seasons. The South Carolina school defeated Alabama 44-16 in the College Football Playoff final in Santa Clara, California, with a star performance by 19-year-old freshman Trevor Lawrence, who started the season as the Tigers’ backup quarterback. Lawrence passed for 347 yards and three touchdowns, including one to sophomore running back Travis Etienne, who added two scores on the ground. The Tigers had defeated Alabama two years ago when they claimed their second national title in school history. Clemson’s win was also Head Coach Dabo Swinney’s second at the school. The Crimson Tide has played in seven of the past 10 championship games, and of those has won five.
