Hillary Clinton paid a 34.2-percent federal tax rate and a 43.2-percent state and local tax rate in 2015, according to her returns released Friday. She and Bill Clinton had a combined $10.75 million income that year. Her running-mate, Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, paid a 20.3-percent federal tax rate. Their opponent Donald Trump has not released his tax returns, citing an alleged audit by the IRS. The IRS has countered that even if Trump were facing an audit he would be allowed to disclose previous tax returns to the public. Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has repeatedly suggested that Trump hesitates to release his tax information because of a “bombshell” possibly related to his charitable giving or business activities.
