It’s best not to lie about your basketball prowess if you’re the newly appointed CEO of an NBA team. Los Angeles Clippers CEO Richard Parsons, who has served as the head of Time Warner and Citigroup, has been praised for his background as a varsity basketball player during his time at the University of Hawaii. But a Deadspin investigation found there is no sign of Parsons ever having played on the team—his name doesn’t show up on statistics and players during his years don’t have any memory of him. Spokespeople for the Clippers and NBA say he played one season non-varsity ball.
