Versatile character actress Eileen Brennan, 80, died on Sunday in her California home from bladder cancer. Brennan’s resume is long and her roles diverse, but some say she is best known for her Mrs. Peacock, a senator’s wife with an appetite for monkey’s brains, in the 1985 cult classic, Clue. Other memorable roles include gruff drill sergeant Doreen Lewis in Private Benjamin with Goldie Hawn, for which she was nominated for an Oscar, and the good-hearted waitress in The Last Picture Show. A statement from her family read in part, “Our family is so grateful for the outpouring of love and respect for Eileen. She was funny and caring and truly one of a kind. Her strength and love will never be forgotten."
