Coachella Stagehand Dies After Falling From Scaffolding

An eyewitness reportedly said the man was climbing without a safety harness.

A stagehand has died on the grounds of the Coachella Music Festival in Indio, California. The man reportedly died Saturday morning after falling while working on a stage. The man “fell from a roof and perished at the scene,” Indio police spokesperson Ben Guitron told the Desert Sun newspaper. Goldenvoice, the production company that runs the festival, confirmed the death and expressed grief over the loss. “Our friend fell while working on a festival stage. It is with heavy hearts and tremendous difficulty that we confirm his passing. He has been with our team for twenty years in the desert and was doing what he loved...” the statement read. “As our lead rigger, he was responsible for the countless incredible shows that have been put on at the festival. We will miss him dearly.” An eyewitness said she saw the man climbing stage scaffolding without a safety harness tethered to a cable to stop him from falling, TMZ reports.
