Stephen Colbert seems to have found a silver lining for Donald Trump in his scorched-earth battle with billionaire Elon Musk—every Tesla owner in the country will be on the president’s side.
On Thursday’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the host weighed in on Trump’s hypocrisy in his posts about revoking the electric vehicle (EV) mandate as part of his ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ and complaint that previous government support “forced everyone to buy electric cars that nobody else wanted.”
“Trump says nobody wanted EV’s when Trump himself sold them on the lawn of the White House!” Colbert noted. “In fact CNN pointed out that Trump himself bought a Tesla that day—and it’s still parked there at the White House.
“So now Donald Trump is a Tesla owner who hates Elon Musk? He’s never been more relatable!”
Colbert said the “Twitter war” between Musk and Trump was “dripping-hot, messy filth—and I am eating up every sloppy bite.”
He also took aim at Musk belatedly accusing Trump of holding back the Jeffrey Epstein files because he features in them.
“By the way Elon, a little late on that intel: Donald Trump was a sexual predator that preyed on young women,” he said, adding that Musk only shared that because Trump had hurt his feelings.
“Trump’s going to have to get one of those bumper stickers for his Tesla that says, ‘I bought this before Elon told everyone I was on Epstein’s plane’,” he joked.
Colbert was also baffled by rapper Kanye West stepping in to play peacemaker between Trump and Musk.
West, who has been a longtime Trump supporter, posted an appeal on X to the two: “Bro’s please no, we love you both so much.”
“The most powerful man in the world and the richest man in the world each with their own missiles are throwing haymakers,” Colbert said, comparing the bust-up to “Real Housewives on a girls’ trip.”
“Thankfully a cooler head has stepped in to calm things down... Kanye has entered the chat,” he added. “You know things are bad when the rational voice mediating your dispute is Kanye West—that’s like walking into an intervention organized by Captain Morgan.”
Noting that Musk had even called for Trump to be impeached, Colbert concluded: “I’m just glad Jeff Epstein isn’t alive to see any of this, it would have broken his heart.”
