An Alabama city commissioner was arrested Tuesday and charged with third-degree assault after he struck a television reporter twice in the face. Dothan District 2 Commissioner Amos Newsome was taken into custody and booked, police said. Newsome hit WTVY reporter Ken Curtis while leaving the commission meeting. Footage showed Curtis asking Newsome if he would resign over allegations of voter fraud linked to his 2013 election. Newsome then struck Curtis with an open hand causing the reporter to bleed on his right cheek. A third-degree assault is a Class A misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to a year of confinement and a fine of up to $6,000 in Alabama.
