They may remain somewhat skeptical, but lawmakers in the House appear to be on the verge of giving President Obama the authority to order U.S. arms and military training for moderate Syrian rebels battling ISIS militants. The president is likely to receive approval in a vote Wednesday. This even though both Republican and Democratic hawks maintain that his response to the ISIS threat is not strong enough, and despite misgivings by some anti-war lawmakers that the United States will get dragged into another ground war. The terror network has overrun chunks of Iraq and Syria, and is seen as a growing menace to the West.
