Police and school officials held a press conference late Tuesday morning to announce the passing of Russell King, 17, the second student to die as a result of the shooting at Chardon High School Monday. King reportedly passed in the early hours of Tuesday morning after being declared brain dead. Joe Bergant, superintendent of schools for the insular Ohio town of 5,000, said that faculty and staff would return to work Wednesday and “students and their parents” were invited to return Thursday. By Friday, schools would be “open for business” Bergant said. “Certainly not as usual.” He said counselors would be on hand for students and faculty. Chardon Chief of Police Tim McKenna also spoke, saying that investigations into the shooting are ongoing. “I cannot provide you a motive for this,” McKenna said. The next press update will be held at 4:30 p.m.
