NBC’s Bob Costas said Tuesday that he made a “mistake” when he blamed a lack of gun control for playing a role in Kansas City Chiefs’ Jovan Belcher’s murder-suicide. Belcher allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, before fatally shooting himself on Saturday—which came as a shock to the NFL and Chiefs’ fans. During the Sunday Night Football broadcast, Costas said, “If Jovan Belcher didn’t possess a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would still be alive today.” Costas backtracked from those comments, saying he did not take the time to properly discuss the issue.
