A lawsuit filed by Playboy that accused website Boing Boing of copyright infringement for linking to a centerfold archive created by a third party was thrown out last month. Playboy originally filed the suit in January, taking legal action against the website rather than suing the third party behind the archive. Boing Boing said the suit was “based on an imaginary (and dangerous) version of US copyright law” and insisted the damages that Playboy was seeking “would put us (and every other small publisher in America) out of business.” In response to the court throwing the case out, Boing Boing said they were “glad the legal system has reaffirmed that linking is legal.”
