Crazy Rich Asians tanked during its opening in China this weekend, and might not even break $1 million in ticket sales, Variety reported. While Crazy Rich Asians was a hit romantic comedy in the U.S., breaking significant barriers in Hollywood due to its all-Asian cast, the stars aren’t big-names in China. The movie only took in $410,000 on Friday and $400,000 on Saturday. Theaters started pulling Crazy Rich Asians—cutting the number of screenings from some 32,000 on Friday to 18,700 on Saturday, according to local sources cited by Variety. When Crazy Rich Asians made its North American debut in August, it earned $174 million. Audiences in East Asia also favored the film. In Singapore, where much of the movie takes place, there were $5 million in sales. The wan earnings were in keeping with Warner Bros.'s estimates, projecting Crazy Rich Asians's would flop in China as did Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and Amy Schumer's I Feel Pretty, which raked in $602,000 and $206,000, respectively.
