Scotland Yard announced on Friday that it had begun a formal criminal investigation of the late BBC presenter and DJ Jimmy Savile after an assessment of sex-abuse accusations dubbed Operation Yewtree yielded over 400 leads. The Metropolitan Police say that this is "alleged abuse on an unprecedented scale." The investigation is now focusing on over 200 individuals who have come forward alleging that they were sexually abused by Savile or one of a few other individuals associated with the scandal.
