Why is this tabloid libel different from all other tabloid libel? According to Tom Cruise’s lawyer, the recent National Enquirer story ‘Inside Tom’s HOUSE OF HORRORS!” is simply more offensive. In a cease-and-desist letter released Thursday, Cruise’s lawyer threatens legal action and calls the story “disgraceful and lurid” and claims it will cause Cruise “hundreds of millions of dollars of professional and personal damages.” The recently published National Enquirer cover story purports to offer readers a look inside “the abuse ... punishments ... humiliation” of “Katie's tortured life” and claims “the real Tom is a monster!” The letter issued by Cruise’s legal team also denies claims made about Cruise’s parenting of daughter Suri. “Suri was not forced to stay for five months in a tiny windowless room,” the letter states. “She slept in a nursery adjoining their bedroom. It has a window.”
