Cyprus Probing State Prosecutor’s Leaked Emails to Russia

Cyprus has appointed a civil servant to conduct a disciplinary probe into senior state prosecutor Eleni Loizidou over concerns that she may have influenced court cases involving Russia. Attorney General Costas Clerides requested the appointment of an investigator and noted that the information contained in Loizidou’s leaked emails to Russian law officials may have “breached the strict boundaries of briefing” them on cases in which Russian authorities had sought help from Cyprus. Separately, police will also launch a criminal probe into how Loizidou’s private email account was hacked.
