Prosecutors said Monday they plan to seek the death penalty against a man accused of killing three Muslim college students, according to the Durham County District Attorney’s Office. Craig Stephen Hicks, 46, is accused of fatally shooting 23-year old Deah Barakat; his 21-year-old wife, Yusor Abu-Salha; and her 19-year-old sister, Razan Abu-Salha, in Chapel Hill near the University of North Carolina campus last month. Hicks allegedly got into an argument with the victims over parking, but police are investigating possible motivations of religious hatred. Federal authorities have also opened a probe into the case for a potential hate crime.
