A tuxedoed Trevor Noah came out swinging Thursday night at the top of The Daily Show’s final episode before the new year. But things took a dark turn when he began to recap the “eventful” year that was 2015.
“From the Charlie Hebdo shootings, to the Planned Parenthood shootings, to the shootings in Mali, to the Paris shootings, to the San Bernardino shootings, uh, shitty year, really. 2015 was a shitty year,” the host admitted.
Struggling to come up with “fun” stories to talk about, Noah recalled that time “a piece of fabric divided the nation.” No, not the Confederate flag, but rather that dress that is 100 percent white and gold.
The Daily Show brought out its full slate of correspondents to look back on various themes that dominated 2015. Jessica Williams took on all things viral, from Drake’s “Hotline Bling” video to the Ebola epidemic.
Roy Wood Jr. was supposed to talk about #BlackLivesMatter, but ended up just messing with Martin Shkreli’s Wu-Tang Clan obsession instead.
Then, Jordan Klepper was tasked with remembering the “bad boys” of 2015: namely, Bill Cosby, Robert Durst, and Jared Fogle. And Desi Lydic and Hasan Minhaj reviewed all the women who will not be on the $10 bill, including Rachel Dolezal and the Hungarian camerawoman who intentionally tripped Syrian refugees.
The whole thing ended with an angry rant from Ronnie Chang about Pizza Rat that unfortunately would have been more convincing coming from Lewis Black.
Who’s ready for 2016?
