The Dallas police officer who fatally shot a man in his own home last week after apparently mistaking his apartment for hers was involved in an earlier shooting in the city. Amber Guyger, who has been on the force for nearly five years, shot a suspect who took a Taser from her in a 2017 incident, according to The Dallas Morning News. She was not indicted in that case, and the suspect, who survived, went on to serve a prison sentence on drug charges and for taking an officer’s weapon. Guyger is expected to face charges for the Thursday night shooting of 26-year-old Botham Jean, a neighbor whom Guyger had reportedly not met since moving into the South Side Flats complex about a month earlier. Police say they believe Guyger walked into Jean’s apartment after confusing it with her own, though it is not clear what led her to shoot him. “She is devastated,” a fellow Dallas police officer told The Dallas Morning News. “She is so, so sorry for this family.”
