Dallas Killer’s Parents: He Turned Into a ‘Hermit’ After Military Service

“He loved his country.”

The parents of Micah X. Johnson, the man who opened fire on police officers in Dallas last week, said their son became a “hermit” after he was discharged from the Army in 2015 following a sexual-harassment allegation during his deployment in Afghanistan. They were unable, however, to pinpoint an exact incident that may have sparked his change in mind-set. Delphine Johnson said her son at one point wanted to be a police officer and was enthusiastic about joining the military because he loved his country. “The military was not what Micah thought it would be,” she said. “He was very disappointed. But it may be that the ideal that he thought of our government, what he thought the military represented, it just didn’t live up to his expectations.”
