Rep. Darrell Issa said Friday morning that he too might run for speaker of the House. The announcement came the morning after fellow California Republican Kevin McCarthy dropped the bombshell that he would no longer seek to succeed the departing John Boehner. As former House Oversight Committee chairman, Issa told MSNBC, he could be uniquely qualified for the high-level leadership position, but added that he believes Rep. Paul Ryan—who has thus far hesitated to run—would be a better fit. Issa’s entry would be seen as a more mainstream conservative challenge to entrants Rep. Jason Chaffetz and Daniel Webster.
