David Cameron's Crass EU Stupidity

The Tories are always, always wrong on foreign policy.

The right-wing British press is celebrating prime minsiter David Cameron's refusal to join an updated Lisbon Treaty to further integrate European nations, but The Guardian's Will Hutton is livid. "The British right's instincts–jingoistic, imperialistic, anti-progressive and isolationist–have consistently led this country into calamities. Today, once again, the Conservative right, indulging its atavistic instincts and egged on by a no less atavistic right-of-centre press, is landing the country in the soup." Cameron's vote against the EU might have been defensible had British interests really been at stake, but what he was really defending was London's casino atmosphere.
