Canadian company Tilray Inc. has gained approval from the Drug Enforcement Administration to import cannabis into the United States for medical research, Bloomberg reports. Tilray will reportedly work with the University of California San Diego’s Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research to test if the substance can treat essential tremor, a common neurological disorder for those 65 and older that causes uncontrollable shaking. The clinical trial will reportedly test an “oral capsule” that has a “20-to-1 ratio of CBD to THC” on fewer than 20 patients as an alternative to the high blood pressure or seizure medication people with essential tremor take for their condition. After the announcement, Tilray’s stocks rose 11 percent Tuesday morning and set a “record high.” A Politico report last week also revealed that Canadians who work in the pot industry are facing a lifetime ban from the United States because Customs and Border Protection does not “recognize that as a legal business.”
