In an appearance on MSNBC, Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) was asked about her recent clash with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) during a meeting of the House Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency, where Stansbury pushed back against President Donald Trump referring to himself as a “king.”

In response to Greene’s suggestion that her comments were threatening, Stansbury told host Alex Witt, “I find it comical.” The congresswoman went on to explain what actually happened: “I pointed out and I directed my statement directly to Mr. Trump... I said that 250 years ago, we rejected an abusive king in this country and that we’re not going back. And that’s just the reality.”

Stansbury’s exact words were: “I know that Donald Trump thinks that he’s a king because of social media. Of course, he keeps repeating this, but let me say this to you, Mr. Trump: 250 years ago, the people of this great nation rejected a reckless, abusive king, and we won’t go back.”

Stansbury also shared a message for federal employees, pledging, “For the thousands of federal workers out there… know that we see you. We are fighting for you, we are in the courts, we are in Congress, we are in our communities, and we will hold this administration accountable, and we will not abandon our allies or our humanity. So with that, I say to all of you, be strong. We will fight back.”

During the Feb. 26 meeting where the clash took place, Greene was quick to condemn Stansbury’s comments, asserting that, “Threats against the President of the United States will not be tolerated by anyone.”

Greene also defended the cuts made by the Trump administration and, more specifically, Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency, telling the committee, “If the U.S. government operated like any other private business—which it should, by the way—it would be completely bankrupt, and it would be out of business.“ She continued, ”Government is not a charity, and it is not to be used and abused by the bureaucracy to implement the far left’s agenda and impose it on the entire world.”
