California State Sen. Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia) resigned on Thursday, ahead of a possible vote to expel or suspend him from the legislature over allegations of sexual misconduct. In his strongly worded resignation letter, Mendoza said Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León “will not rest until he has my head on a platter to convince the MeToo movement of his ‘sincerity’ in supporting the MeToo cause.” Multiple women have said that Mendoza engaged in “unwanted flirtatious or sexually suggestive behavior.” Mendoza has denied the allegations.
