Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) said on Sunday that the women who accused former President Bill Clinton of sexual assault should have been believed. “I think that the victims who came forward were not treated as they should have been,” Speier said on CBS’ Face the Nation. “They should have been believed because, as I have pointed out, most people who come forward are telling the truth.” Speier’s comments come as Democrats and liberals are beginning to express regret over how the former president’s accusers were dismissed, in light of recent allegations against powerhouse figures in politics, media and entertainment. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) said last week that Clinton should have resigned after the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
