The close Florida Senate race between incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson and Republican Gov. Rick Scott will head to a recount, Nelson’s campaign announced Wednesday. According to unofficial results from the state’s Division of Elections, Scott is leading by 0.42 percent, or 34,500 votes. “We are proceeding to a recount,” Nelson said Wednesday morning. Late Tuesday night, Scott claimed victory after Fox News announced his win, though the Associated Press has not officially called the race. Moments after, Nelson, who is seeking his fourth term, issued a statement that he would wait until the morning before making any official remarks on the race. His campaign manager, in a statement Wednesday, said the senator “will be making a full statement,” but only to thank his campaign.
