Democrats Tie Virginia House After Recount Decided by Single Vote
NAIL-BITER
In a stunning turn of events, a Republican seat in Virginia's House of Delegates flipped Democratic in a recount on Tuesday where the margin was exactly one vote. Democrat Shelly Simonds appears to be the winner in the recount for the 94th District seat, earning 11,608 votes while her opponent Republican incumbent David Yancey earned 11,607. The results must be officially certified by a three-judge panel on Wednesday, but it would split control of the House of Delegates evenly 50-50. Yancey had a lead of just ten votes going into the recount. “Delegate-elect Shelly Simonds’s victory tonight is proof that every single vote matters,” Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) Executive Director Jessica Post said in a statement to The Daily Beast.
