Dems to Scale Back Agenda?

If Scott Brown wins the Massachusetts Senate seat, will Nancy Pelosi be able to rally the House to pass the health-care bill that has already cleared the U.S. Senate? "If Nancy Pelosi pulls this off, she will be remembered as the greatest Speaker in the history of the United States," a Democratic aide at the center of the health-care debate tells Politico. In fact, with or without a Democratic victory, it seems that Democrats will soon turn away from their ambitious agenda, as Noam Scheiber writes in The New Republic. “Democrats will likely spend the second half of the year reaching for issues that send important messages to voters,” Scheiber writes—issues like whistleblower protection and handouts for labor, like mine safety. If true, that sounds an awful lot like Clintonism—a turn of events that is likely to alienate the Democratic Party’s liberal base even more.
