Denise Grollmus, Ex-Wife of The Black Keys’ Patrick Carney, Tells All
Ex-wife of The Black Keys’ Patrick Carney dishes on rock-star divorce.
Rock stars: They’re just like us. In a poignant and painful essay for Salon, journalist Denise Grollmus describes the end of her marriage to Patrick Carney, drummer for the Grammy-winning Black Keys. While the causes are perhaps unusual—not everyone has a spouse who is frequently away from home on tour—the separation and divvying up of possessions are as ordinary and wrenching as they are for any other couple. Grollmus talks about the progress of their relationship from high school in Akron, Ohio, to alcohol abuse and infidelity and finally to divorce, focusing on mementos from their time together.
