New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter is out for the playoffs after fracturing his ankle Saturday night while diving to make a catch against the Detroit Tigers. The shortstop is expected to recover in about three months, said team manager Joe Girardi, and be back in pinstripes by next season. While Girardi said that the injury will not be career ending for the 38-year-old Bronx Bomber, the shock of losing their captain in the postseason had Jeter’s teammates reeling Saturday night. “For him to lay down on that field, I knew something was broke or torn completely,” pitcher Andy Pettitte said. The Yankees threw a ninth-inning comeback to lose 6–4.
