The women of Wisteria Lane have reportedly come to the end of the road. Desperate Housewives' eighth season, which will begin in September 2011 and end in May 2012, will be its last, according to an exclusive report from Deadline Hollywood. ABC is expected to make an official announcement on Sunday. According to Deadline, main castmembers Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Eva Longoria are just getting word. ABC allegedly signed contracts with the leading quartet for next season after long salary negotiations. After initially expressing interest in the show’s ninth season, Housewives’ longtime showrunner Marc Cherry stepped down at the end of season seven and is currently facing charges from former castmember Nicolette Sheridan over a purported slap. Desperate Housewives has been a success amongst audiences and critics alike since its 2004 debut—it’s become the most-watched comedy series internationally in the past four years.
