Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan announced Friday that the city’s Chene Park amphitheater will be renamed “Aretha Franklin Park.” During Franklin’s star-studded funeral, Duggan said that future performers would know “they are performing at the home of the Queen of Soul.” City Council President Brenda Jones also announced that a street in the city would be renamed “Aretha Franklin Way” and that her family will be given the “highest honor of Detroit City Council.” Jones said that Franklin was “more than just a singer. Her humanitarian efforts, larger than life heart, silent generosity will forever be remembered.” Before the announcements, singer Faith Hill celebrated the late music legend by singing the hymn “What A Friend We Have in Jesus” accompanied by a full gospel choir.
