Dior Presents First Show in Paris Fashion Week Without John Galliano

Curtain Call

Paris Fashion Week show ends in tears for some.

Marking the end of an era, Christian Dior’s show on Friday during Paris Fashion Week was the last and final collection from its disgraced designer, John Galliano. The designer was fired after 15 years at Dior over allegations he made anti-Semitic comments to a couple. He is now reportedly in rehab for alcohol abuse. “It’s more like a funeral,” said photographer Mario Testino of Galliano’s final show. Delphine Arnault, daughter of the noticeably absent LVMH Chairman Bernard Arnault, wiped away tears, while Dior Chief Executive Sidney Toledano delivered a speech, calling the recent Galliano controversy “a terrible and wrenching ordeal for us all.” Despite the fuss, the show was a success, with The New York Times calling it “pretty and witty.”
