Diplomats Discuss Syrian Cease-Fire

Representatives from the United Nations, European Union, and 17 countries gathered in Vienna on Friday to discuss a potential cease-fire in Syria. The conference was led by Secretary of State John Kerry, but did not feature a representative from Syria. Instead, diplomats from Russia and Iran—Syria’s patrons—were in attendance. On the agenda in addition to a cease-fire is a plan to transition President Bashar al-Assad out of power.
