Dismissed Officer to Return to Air Force

The Obama administration this week appealed a decision by a federal judge to reinstate an Air Force officer dismissed under the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. But surprisingly, the government’s attorneys did not ask that the decision be stayed—a signal that Major Margaret Witt will be allowed to rejoin her unit even while DADT remains in place. "I am thrilled to be able to serve in the Air Force again," Witt said. "The men and women in the unit are like family members to me, and I've been waiting a long time to rejoin them." The Pentagon is expected to release a long-awaited report Tuesday detailing how the military should end the band on gays serving openly.
