Docs: Paterno Was Told of Abuse in 1976

Penn State football coach Joe Paterno was allegedly told that Jerry Sandusky was molesting children as early as 1976. A line in a court order pertaining to an insurance-coverage case related to the university references that a child came to Paterno and said this had gone on. The order also refers to other incidents in 1987 and 1988 involving inappropriate contact between Sandusky and children that was known to Penn State coaching staffers. Paterno’s family and lawyers have said he was deceived by Sandusky and unaware of the abuse. He died in 2012, months after the Sandusky allegations came to light.
