Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner does not have cancer after all, her doctors said Saturday when they sent her home from the hospital. The government announced last month that recently reelected Fernández had thyroid cancer, and her thyroid gland was removed on Jan. 4. The operation was a success, doctors said, but upon analyzing the gland, they realized she never had cancer in the first place. Thousands of Fernández’s supporters camped outside the hospital where she was staying, carrying banners that said “Strength Cristina” and a cheer went up through the crowd when the hospital announced she did not have cancer.
