Another piece of crucial liberal legislation may fall victim to a Republican filibuster: Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd has said that financial-regulation reform is at an “impasse” after talks with his Republican counterpart on the Senate Banking Committee, Richard Shelby (the same man who has placed a hold on every single one of President Obama’s nominees until he gets a pork project restored in Alabama), stalled. The main sticking point is how strong to make a consumer-protection agency, with Shelby wanting to water it down.
