DOJ Will Investigate Student Body Slam

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott has requested the FBI and U.S. Department of Justice investigate a videotaped incident at South Carolina’s Spring Valley High School, in which Sheriff’s Deputy Ben Fields is seen body slamming an unidentified, seated female student to the ground after she refused to leave the classroom. After the footage went viral Monday, Fields, also a school security officer, was suspended. Lott told reporters he is “disturbed” by the footage and that his department would fully cooperate with any federal agency’s investigation into the matter.
