Rachel Dolezal, the white former NAACP president who lied about being black, has been removed from her post on a police oversight committee by the Spokane City Council. The council voted 6-0 to remove Dolezal from the Police Ombudsman Commission due to misconduct. After the allegations of misconduct first surfaced, Dolezal released a statement saying she was “disturbed” by the mayor and council’s request for her to resign. “I standby my work on behalf of the citizens of Spokane to further justice and promote civilian oversight of law enforcement. I urge the people of Spokane to take a close look at the timing and intentions of the investigation and request for my resignation. I will continue to do all I can to promote greater transparency and accountability for law enforcement both locally and nationally.”
