Dominicans Oppose Gay Ambassador

Not the way you want your first day on the job to go. The fifth openly gay U.S. ambassador has arrived to his new post in the Dominican Republic and not everyone is being so welcoming. The Dominican Republic government accepted the selection of James "Wally" Brewster, but leaders of the Catholic Church there have decried his appointment as a personal affront by President Obama. "He has not considered the particularities of our people," said Father Luis Rosario. "The United States is trying to impose on us marriage between gays and lesbians as well as adoption by these couples." Some Catholics are wearing black ribbons in protest.
