Donald Trump, a top contender for the GOP presidential nomination after embracing birtherism, has given more money over his lifetime to Democrats than Republicans. The Washington Post reviewed his political donations and found that he has given 54 percent of the $1.3 million in donations to Democrats, including Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, and President Obama’s former chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel. Trump has said that he gave to Democrats because New York is a blue state and he had few Republican options.
