More than half of the 149 passengers aboard doomed Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 were involved in some sort of humanitarian or environmental work, the Associated Press reports. Eight Ethiopian Airlines crew members also perished in the Sunday crash. Among those from more than 35 countries: small-business owners, authors, and holiday makers in addition to commuters traveling from Ethiopia to Kenya. A Nigerian victim was a former ambassador. The World Food Programme, UNICEF, Red Cross, Save the Children, African Diaspora Youth Forum in Europe, and the Food and Agriculture Organization all confirmed members of their staff had died in the accident. There were also diplomats traveling to the U.N. Environment Assembly set to begin Monday in Nairobi. Investigators on Monday located the black box that contains the cockpit voice recorder, the BBC reports. No cause has yet been established for the fatal accident.
