Markets

For first time since June 2008.

The Dow Jones crossed 12000 for the first time since June 2008, but couldn't keep the momentum going and closed at 11,985.44, up 8.25 points. The index gained 30 points in early trading to hit 12005 with Dupont, Home Depot, and Alcoa leading the way. The Dow first crossed 12000 in October 2006, when employment was under 5 percent. Today, employment is near 10 percent.
