This could certainly cheer Lady Mary up a bit. Downton Abbey scored its highest U.S. ratings ever on Sunday night—and the highest ratings for a PBS drama ever. The season premiere drew 10.2 million viewers, up 22 percent from last year’s premiere. That’s more viewers than the 9.6 million Britons who watched the premiere. Britain broke its own record with the premiere, and then viewership steadily improved—until dropping off slightly before losing to a Christmas special of Call the Midwife. ITV and PBS have already ordered a fifth season of Downton regardless.
