A drone attack targeted the Iraqi prime minister’s home early Sunday, according to military officials there. Military leaders called the explosive rocket strike an assassination attempt on Mustafa al-Kadhemi. The prime minister escaped the home, located in Baghdad’s Green Zone, unharmed. Seven of al-Kadhemi’s guards were injured by the drone attack, Iraqi officials told the Associated Press. Tensions have been rising in Iraq for the past month as Shiite militias—backed by Iran—have protested against al-Kadhemi’s government and the results of recent parliamentary elections. At least one protester was killed in demonstrations last week as the militias clashed with security forces.
